Küsterer 1872 Urweisse

• 5.8% ABV (Alcohol by Volume) • 17 IBU (International Bittering Units)

A semi-dark, Bavarian-style traditional wheat beer, celebrating the public right to brew Weissbier, which had been exclusively reserved for the Royal Bavarian court brewer since 1609 as an exception to the Reinheitsgebot (German Beer Purity Law). This new freedom granted by Bavarian King Ludwig II in 1872 ushered in a brief revival of the style under the leadership of Georg Schneider I. With hints of roasted malt and soft, fruity esters, this classic South-German style wheat ale is both hearty and refreshing and pairs beautifully with out Bavarian food menu.

Christoph Küsterer

Christoph Küsterer was the original German brewer in the Grand River Valley and Kent County. Arriving around 1844, his family’s brewing history lasted nearly a century. We’re proud to pay tribute to his legacy as the region’s first craft brewery focused on German styles. Our Küsterer Biers are brewed according to the Reinheitsgebot (German Beer Purity Law) and contain only water, malt, hops and yeast.
