Today is GERMAN BIER DAY, marking the 510th anniversary of the Reinheitsgebot, the German Beer Purity Law - and we know just the place to celebrate! Originally, this was a "food purity law," and one among many over the years, regulating the ingredients and price of Bier at the time. This proclamation was based upon a Munich law of 1487 and expanded to Bavaria in 1516 - which was an independent country at the time - and adopted by all of Germany in 1906. The EU eventually ended the legal enforcement of the law, but most German brewers kept up the practice as a "strategic advantage" and symbol of quality, with a tremendous amount of creativity and tradition using four, all-natural ingredients: water, malt, hops, and yeast.
