It's nearly Oktoberfest season...yes, already! Enjoy Küsterer Märzen...also known as "Oktoberfest." This lager style evolved in the early 19th Century as a legendary Spaten brewer Gabriel Sedlmayr from Munich and Anton Dreher of Dreher Brewery in Vienna researched pale malting techniques in England and combined with Bavarian lagering yeasts to create a “March brew” that was stored over the summer to enjoy during harvest. By the mid-19th Century, it was the accepted Oktoberfest style for the next hundred years or so. While "Festbier," a lighter version evolved in the 1970s and is standard at the event nowadays, the classic style lives in our taproom. Subtle, layered and complex, this traditional deep copper lager has been enjoyed for over a hundred years in the Beer Halls and Gardens of Bavaria & Austria. It’s rich, malty body is complimented by soft caramel notes and a clean, refreshing finish, pairing great with food and good conversation. We are German tradition; crafted in Michigan. Adolph Goetz, a former brewmaster at the Kusterer Brewing Company's City Brewery and Tusch Brothers' Cincinnati Brewery, established the National Brewery in Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1886. He also served as the original brewmaster for Grand Rapids Brewing Company in 1893.
