We're blessed to have the Fred Meijer White Pine Trail State Park, a 92-mile (148 km) long linear state park in the U.S. state of Michigan, intersecting our town. Also part of the North Country Trail in Cedar Springs, the trail extends from northern Grand Rapids to Cadillac, and it lies on the path graded for the Grand Rapids and Indiana Railroad (later absorbed by the Pennsylvania Railroad). As the railroad ceased operation in the mid-1980s, the Michigan Department of Transportation came to own the rail bed. By 1994 the property was transferred to the Michigan Department of Natural Resources (DNR), which began replacing the rails with a trail for public recreational use. We wanted to spotlight some of our local talent here at your local Brewery and with the Emerald month of March at hand, we thought we'd visit with Toby Bresnahan Music and get to know him a bit better! ►What's your story? Where are you from? How did you get started playing music and what were some of your strongest influences? I'm a native of Grand Rapids. I dabbled in the guitar when I was very young but, I really got interested in high school when I took a music theory class and wrote a piece of music in which my music teacher; a really great guy and someone who was a huge influence seemed to really believe in what I was doing. He saw enough potential in that one composition that he brought in three different college recruiters to encourage me to further my music education. Nowadays my biggest influences are Traditional Irish music soloists and groups. ► Do you play solo most of the time or within a group? Mostly solo these days. ► What is the most interesting venue you've played? Tell us a story! There are a handful of venues in Ireland in which I've played on a tour with my cousins which are the most memorable. The Michigan Irish Music festival has also been a highlight when I've been invited to play over the years. ► Is there anything you particularly enjoy about playing at the Brewery? CSB is indeed one of my favorite places to play since they opened their doors in November 2015.
